Do you fancy the sight of half-naked sexy Thai girls show-dance right in front of your eyes? Then a visit to one of Pattaya's famous GoGo bars should definitely be on your to-do list when staying in Pattaya.
Never been to one before? Then on this page you'll hopefully get a few first impressions of what's awaiting you in a typical Pattaya A-GoGo.

Currently, there are over 70 GoGo bars all over Pattaya, most of which can be found on Walking Street and its side-streets or on Pattayaland Soi 2.
GoGo bars are air-conditioned indoor bars with dancing stages in the centre and lots of attractive women with only little clothes or bikinis on who perform the erotic "art" of pole-dancing. On top of that, some bars provide show entertainment - with objects such as balloons, bananas, cigarettes ("pussy smoke cigarette"), or simply two affectionate girls involved (lesbian show).
Unfortunately, the music played in most Pattaya GoGo bars tends to be the average noisy Thai-
style Techno or dance music played at a little ear-friendly volume. Some bars, however, seem to employ DJs of a more advanced age group and play some good old Rock 'n' Roll or a decent mix of music styles at a more moderate volume.
Seating in GoGo bars is available either on barstools right along the stage or on sofa-style chairs along the (usually mirrored) walls. While a seat right at the stage might give you a more detailed view of the female body, you can be sure to get a stiff neck as well!
Apparently in order to save your money on neck massage, table-dancing on mirrored tables has become increasingly popular in the last years. The reason for these mirrors, of course, is that the girls wear only very little clothes under their short skirts and to make sure that heavily intoxicated punters, who prefer to stare down at the table anyway, do not miss any intimate physical details between the thighs of the sexy dancers.
Other GoGo bars provide their show dancers even with Jacuzzi bathtubs to make sure their most intimate parts meet international hygiene standards.

The first ever AGoGo bar in Pattaya was the legendary Tahitian Queen AGoGo that opened back in 1978 and is still successfully in business after 30 years of "Rock'n'roll".
In 2009, there have been more than seventy AGoGo's all over Pattaya, and the number of venues still keeps on rising. While GoGo bars are concentrated most densely in the South Pattaya area (Walking Street, Pattayaland Soi 2), lightly-dressed show girls, shaking their little booties on the dancing stage, can be found all over Pattaya - with a number of chrome-pole palaces on Pattaya Beach Road, Soi 6, 7 and 8, or even in Jomtien or Naklua. While some venues have been around for years, the less successful places seem to change ownership, names and format every couple of months.
Despite Thailand's "new social order" campaign, and frequent raids on venues providing so-called "lewd entertainment", "sexy" shows at designated hours (featuring ladies, some of whom are real "pussy artists"), "no knickers" and nude dancing are still common in most GoGo bars.
In spite of Pattaya's ambitious efforts to focus on what the experts of Thailand's tourism authority label as the "quality" end of the tourism market, there's obviously still a huge demand for forms of entertainment that do not comply with the image of a "clean" and "sex-free" Pattaya that tourism officials are focussing on. Thanks Buddha, one has to say.
Most AGogo bars offer "Happy hours" in the early evening hours, with draft beer being sold at as cheap as 50 Baht or less, which isn't just good value for money but may be chaper than drinking in a beer bar. Typically they employ extra service staff, whose job it is to stand or sit outside the premises, wave advertising signs promoting show times and "happy hours" and invite passengers to come in and join the fun.
Regular drinking prices for bottled beer, imported spirits or "lady drinks", however, are well above the average prices paid at ordinary beer bars, and especially lady drinks are generally more than 100 Baht. As a tourist, however - given the special sort of entertainment you're getting in a GoGo bar, you should still find these prices reasonably cheap. However, be aware of girls, who ask you for another lady drink every 15 minutes as you might end up with more lady drinks than beers on your bill.

In general, there are no cover charges, this means, no additional "entry fees" or extra charges for shows being performed. The few places which do charge entry fees usually cater to Asian clients only; just avoid them! The notorious rip-offs that have been reported from GoGo bars in Bangkok's Patpong, are usually uncommon in Pattaya.
Of course, AGoGo bars are hostess bars, this means, the dancers (not the service girls usually) are available for a session of erotic exercises in the privacy of your room. However, as Gogo girls are usually more attractive than their colleagues in outdoor beer bars without show performances and table-dancing (and their salaries much higher, too!), "bar fines" in AGoGo's tend to be double as high as in ordinary bars, roughly around 500-700 Baht (or even more for "stunners" and "show girls").
Naturally the 'compensation fee' that GoGo girls charge for themselves and extra sexual services also doubles or triples the amount that an average looking bar girl would ask for. Expect to spend a minimum of 2000 THB all-inclusive. Short-time rates (sex for an hour or so) may start at around 1,000 Baht at the cheaper venues while long-term rates (all night long) are roughly between 2,000 and 3,000 Baht (the sky's the limit). As in beer bars, prices are negotiable, but do not expect too much of a discount. (In the case of GoGo girls, please remember that you actually see what you get before you pay, that is a girl that looks sexy not only in her fancy bar dress but still when the clothes are off.)
Having said that GoGo bars are primarily hostess bars catering to single male tourists, they can provide great fun for more adventurous couples, too. AGoGo's have become a substantial feature of Pattaya's famous nightlife and synonymous with Pattaya's notorious "sex industry". Therefore, a visit to a Pattaya GoGo bar should be on every tourist's "must-see-list", even if it's just to get a first impression and you should leave it again on your own - or with your wife of twenty-five years!
